Who?

The Harris Forum is a member organisation which means individuals participate through membership of a larger group or organisation. Membership application is welcome from any fully constituted community groups or organisations based in Harris, or working in Harris, with a remit to provide social, economic, and cultural developments and improvements in Harris.

The following groups are members of the Harris Forum:

 

Community Learning & Development - CnES

The Community Learning & Development Service promotes and provides opportunities throughout the Western Isles for community based learning and development services to adults and young people where local people are included, participating, achieving and progressing.

Harris Development Ltd

HDL aims to foster, plan, encourage and assist (using discretion) all types of development in the geographical area of the Isle of Harris, with a view to promoting an economic, natural and social environment that will result in a more balanced and stable level of population.

Harris Voluntary Service

Harris Voluntary Service is a not-for-profit organisation within the Western Isles Third Sector Interface partnership. They support community initiatives, projects, charities, community groups and volunteer-involving organisations with funding, governance, training, events and they use their fortnightly newsletter to keep the community connected on local and national issues.

Leverhulme Community Hub

The vision of the Hub is to develop a multi-purpose facility. They have the Aosd’ is Ùr charity shop, gym, launderette, café, Post Office, the new space for the local historical society and a community room/multi-functional space.

North Harris Community Council

A community council is a voluntary organisation set up by statute by the Comhairle. It is run by local residents on behalf of the community. The locally elected members attend meetings to act as a voice for their local area, express the views of the community on a wide range of issues and take actions in the interest of the community, 

North Harris Trust

The aim of the NHT is to achieve the regeneration and development of the North Harris community by managing the North Harris Estate as an area of outstanding wild and rugged beauty, through local participation and working with other partners where appropriate, all for the benefit of the local community and the wider public.

Rionnagan Oga

'Rionnagan Oga' is the Gaelic for Young Stars and is a group led by local parents of young children. The objectives of the group are as follows:

 - Providing Gaelic immersion learning through the medium of Gaelic for children in early years 0-3.

 - Promoting the acquisition and usage of Gaelic. 

 - Promoting the uptake of Gaelic Medium Education. 

Scalpay Community Council

A community council is a voluntary organisation set up by statute by the Comhairle. It is run by local residents on behalf of the community. South Harris Community Council

A community council is a voluntary organisation set up by statute by the Comhairle. It is run by local residents on behalf of the community. The locally elected members attend meetings to act as a voice for their local area, express the views of the community on a wide range of issues and take actions in the interest of the community.

Western Isles Community Care Forum

The Forum was established in 1992 as a forum for Voluntary Care
organisations which represent the interests of carers and users of services
throughout the Western Isles. It is actively involved in national and local
consultations on behalf of the voluntary and independent care sectors and
works closely with the statutory care sectors at a statutory planning level.

West Harris Trust

The West Harris Trust was formed to purchase 3 crofting estates belonging to the Scottish Government on the west side of south Harris incorporating the townships of Luskentyre, Seilebost, Horgabost, Borve and Scaristavore. Following extensive consultation, the local community of approximately 119 voted decisively in favour of purchasing the land in October 2008 to regenerate the local community which had been in long term decline. The purchase finally took place in January 2010.
